Rutgers fan “Concerned Alumnus” took it upon him or herself to start a GoFundMe campaign to raise the $1.5 million necessary to buy out head football coach Kyle Flood. Rutgers was having none of it.
The campaign was created on Saturday after Rutgers’ 49-16 loss to Michigan. As of Tuesday morning it had raised $8,431 from 141 people. The mission statement read:
Dear Alumni, Fans, and Friends of Rutgers,
#FIREFLOOD
We deserve better. The players deserve better. It is time to get serious about competing in the Big 10.
Show Barchi we care about R Football
*** These donations go straight to the Rutgers University Foundation***
Flood caught wind of the campaign and told NJ Advanced Media on Sunday, “What I would tell you is I hope that they have a good charity to give it to. If they need any advice on a charity to give it to, I’d be more than happy to point out a few that I’m affiliated with because I plan on being here.”
For now, Flood has nothing to worry about. “Concerned Alumnus” updated the campaign Monday night and said Rutgers had notified GoFundMe that they will not accept donations and refunds would be given to all who donated.
